Pat Crooks

PRAISE! Update on appointment at NIH: The day went well. They took 19 vials of blood, some for research and some for testing. The test results came back normal except my red blood count, HGB and HCT. They were all low but the doctor has decided to take the "wait and watch" approach, which is in agreement with my doctor. Apparently, some people live with MDS for years before it develops into acute leukemia. I have to have blood work every few months; and if there is a drastic change, they will start treatment. Until then, I'm trusting in the Lord and the doctors and I know that He is in control. Thank you prayer warriors, Pat Crooks

Glenn's Nephew, Robbie

I received this request for prayer from a woman on our staff. The young man she is referring to is her husband Glenn's nephew. Michie

Glenn’s nephew, Robbie, is 14 and was just diagnosed with bone cancer. Dr’s say its treatable with chemo for 6-8 months. They can’t operate. If they did he would become a paraplegic at best. He's about 6 foot 3 inches-he was growing to fast and he was having back pain. He grew 3 inches in 3 months. Every other week he has to have 5 days of inpatient chemo. He started chemo this past Sat. after getting the news on Friday. Please pray for this precious young man.

Sue Baker & Alene McDermott 01/17/09

Sue Baker (Lynn Verdone’s Vicki Hartford’s Sister friend): My friend Sue Baker (47 years old) has been having pain in her pelvic area. She has had many tests over the past weeks - most notably a PET scan which read hot in the pelvic area and the liver, indicating cancer in those areas. A biopsy of the liver mass was done and came back as non-cancerous, which contradicts the PET scan results. Cancer markers also came back negative. Doctors are perplexed and continue to attempt diagnosis. I would be grateful if you would add her to your prayer list. Lynn Verdone

Alene McDermott(Lynn Verdone’s friend): Alene who was diagnosed with both breast and Ovarian Cancer over 1 and 1/2 yrs. ago continues to do well, leading a normal life except for the chemo. Thank you so much for your prayers. Lynn Verdone

Fred Heyn 01/16/09

Here is the update on Fred Heyn, for your prayers: He is advised to have a double by-pass and and mitral valve repair. We are waiting to hear from the surgeon at Washington Hospital Center. The good thing is that his heart is strong and his health is good, so we pray for God's wisdom. He is not a candidate for a stint because a stint in one artery would permanently close the other one. Thanks so much for your prayers. Jacquie and Fred Heyn

George Anderson 01/16/09

Today we had an appointment at Hopkins. They removed the staples and the “pressure bandage” from his forehead. The area on his neck is still swollen so they left the 30 stitches in until next Tuesday morning. The pathology report has not come back yet. Now they are closed until Tuesday! “They who wait upon the Lord will renew their strength……”

We finished our appointment at the same time Lara Webster finished her first radiation treatment. We met in the coffee shop with Tim and Lara and had a wonderful hour with them. What are the chances of that timing??? The Lord is good! (For those of you who don’t know Tim and Lara. They were on staff with us for 13 years at Mount Oak and are precious friends.)

We are so grateful for all the prayers, cards, emails and phone calls.
We love you,
Carol Anderson

Kayla's condition

this morning: "right now kayla has had a step backwards and she has a fever and is not responding like she was. I don't know if it is because of increased medication, increased swelling of the brain or something else. Stacy (kayla's mom) is very upset and concerned by this latest downturn please pray and pass this on to others."

this afternoon: The fever is down to 100 degrees and she is responding better. Said they will try and remove the tubes tomorrow.

Prayer Requests 01/14/09

Teresa (Kat’s Aunt): My Aunt Teresa (sister of my mother, who attended Sednesday bible study with me one day while visiting) is finally at the end of her very long battle (over 30 yrs) with MS. She lost her husband, who always lovingly took care of her, 5 yrs ago, her kidney's shut down 4 yrs ago, and she has been dealing with constant infections from a catheter inserted 1 and 1/2 yrs ago. She is 90 lbs and hasn't eaten or drank since Friday. We think she is finally ready to go home to be with God. Our prayer is that she be at peace and have no pain while she makes this final transition, and that she departs quickly. Thank you so much Kat Hunter

Janet Alexander (mother to Cindy LaTorre and Donna Fritter) has a walnut-sized mass growing out of her pancreas. She will meet with doctor next week to discuss options. Donna

GEORGE ANDERSON: Reminder, George is having surgery this morning on his face for melanoma skin cancer. He has to be at John Hopkins by 6 am. The portion to be removed is about 1½ “ x 1½”. They will graft skin from his leg. He will have a radioactive injection before surgery and that will cause the lymph nodes involved to “light up”. We are praying about this. They don’t know the depth of the melanoma until they do the surgery. Pray it has NOT metastasize. The day of surgery they will give George a radioactive injection. If there are any lymph nodes involved they will “light up”. If only 1 is involved they will remove it. If more are involved that will mean another surgery at a later date. Please pray there is no lymph node involvement. Pray for the wisdom of the doctors and team. Thank you so much for praying for us and we ask you to continue. Pray for a good night’s rest. EEK! I just erased everythng I just said. First of all, thanks to all of you who have sent encouragement through this site. We will cherish all these prayers. Second, keep them coming. We need it!!
So, today was interesting. I had a CT scan...easy. But I also had to have a radiation mask made. This mask covers the head, face and part of the bust during radiation treatments. It is like a wet net when they throw it over your head ! Then you have to keep still while it hardens.....I mean hardens to your face. It was very tight on my nose, mouth, and neck. Needless to say, people like me with claustrophobia are not having a good time during this procedure. Thankfully the nurse was wonderful and the technicians as well. However, I think they all decided a little sedative may help during the actual treatments since I will have to wear the mask every day when I go in. Pray for peace!
Our next appointment is Monday with the medical oncologist. It is her job to monitor my chemotherapy and blood counts, etc. Then, next Thursday I have a "simulation" treatment followed by a real treatment on Friday. Everything takes time. But, in His time.....

Fred Heyn: Update 01/07/09 – Fred had two blockages in his artery, one 50% blocked and the other one 90% blocked. His doctor was called away on an emergency surgery so the technician did the procedure. Stints will be put in at a later date. Please keep Fred uplifted in prayer.
